The Little Caesars Player of the Week – Gabe Salvanera

12 months ago Andrew Luberda 0

County Line Preps is pleased to have a sponsorship agreement with specific Little Caesars locations in Queen Creek and Coolidge.

Little Caesars, home of the Hot-‘N-Ready pizza, will sponsor the Player of the Week and Player of the Month awards as part of our agreement.

Each week, CountyLinePreps.com will announce the Player of the Week, accompanied by a Q&A with that week’s winner.

The Player of the Week will receive a gift certificate, redeemable for a two-liter bottle of soda, a pepperoni or cheese pizza, and an order of Crazy Bread, that will be honored at one of the two aforementioned Little Caesars locations.

Additionally, the Player of the Week automatically qualifies for the Player of the Month Award, which will be determined by a poll that will be posted on our County Line Preps Twitter account during the final week each month.

The Player of the Month will receive a plaque and a $25 Little Caesars gift card.

Now that we’ve provided details of both awards, we are pleased to announce this week’s Little Caesars Player of Week:

Gabe Salvanera

Queen Creek – Junior

6’ 160

Salvanera won the 2017 D-1 Boys’ Golf State Championship at OMNI Tucson National in November, defeating runner-up Tony Hendricks of Brophy Prep by one stroke, 137 – 138.

The Bulldogs’ junior entered the tournament as the top-ranked golfer in the state and was in a three-way tie at the end of the first round, where he shot a 2-under par 71. On day two of the tournament, Salvanera shot a 4-under 66 to become Queen Creek’s first-ever individual golf state champion.

County Line Preps:  When you look back to your freshman year and where you are now as a golfer, what’s been the biggest improvement in your game?

Queen Creek golf coach Mark Underwood (left) with State Champion Gabe Salvanera (right).

Gabe Salvanera:  My biggest improvement is just being able to stay calm when it’s down to crunch time or just on any other round of golf.

CLP:  Describe your feelings as you played your second and final round of the state tournament. Were you nervous, excited, anxious?

GS:  The feelings I was going through during my final round were weird. I was so nervous, but at the same time my adrenaline was pumping so I got excited. Especially on the first hole and the final four holes of the final day, I was just so nervous that I could barely stand, but at the same time I always wanted to win the biggest tournament of the season, so I didn’t want this one to slip.

CLP:  What are your plans after graduation?

GS:  My plans are to go to any good Pac-12 college and hopefully go to the PGA Tour from there.

CLP:  What is your greatest athletic memory at Queen Creek High School, other than the State Championship?

GS:  It’s probably all of the car rides from tournaments and matches. Every year those car rides get so much fun and I can’t stop laughing.

CLP:  What is your favorite sports movie and why?

GS:  Remember the Titans. The inspiration and history behind the movies is just so good.

CLP:  Name one person you’d most like to meet and why?

GS:  Tiger Woods because I would like to pick his brain. From learning his work ethic and his mentality; just being able to learn from the best in the world would be an honor.
