The Great Chase: BF’s Adams Setting Example for Teammates

Benjamin Franklin senior multi-sport athlete Chase Adams has been a member of the baseball team since its inaugural season, so he knows the ins and outs of the Chargers’ program better than most.
“It’s really invaluable to have guys who know you and know what to expect,” Chargers head coach Kyle Shade told CountyLinePreps.com.
“For example, when we were setting the team this year and we had some new faces, I get everybody back in the dugout and asked those who know me to share my biggest pet peeve. Chase raises his hand quickly and says, ‘You (have) to be on time.’ It’s nice to have people who understand what’s expected and set that tone, that’s Chase.”
Despite being one of only two seniors, and the most experienced player on the team, Adams sees other leaders on the roster besides himself.
“We have a bunch of great guys on this team,” the 6-foot-1 right-hander said. “I don’t see myself as one of the only leaders.
“We have some sophomores out here,” Adams continued. “We have our catcher Cade Mcafee, who is an absolute stud. Brandon Doggett is our other senior (and) he’s a great leader. I think it’s just great that we’re all out here, making sure that everybody is on top of it.”
Adams was also the starting quarterback on the Chargers’ football team that reached the 3A Conference semifinals last season. He threw nine touchdowns passes and has used the same throwing mechanics on the mound, where he’s fanned 41 batters in 37 IP.

“I have a three-quarter release when I’m pitching,” he said. “It transfers over into football (and) my coach may not like it, but it works for me.”
Adams sports a 3.86 career ERA and finished his final season second on the team with a .333 batting average.
“He’s been our number-one pitcher from the beginning,” Shade said. “He has our lone playoff victory from a couple of years ago, he’s been very flexible and will play any position I ask him to, (and) he’s swung the bat well – he has our only homerun of the year so far – he’s really been a big contributor, no doubt.”
A great leader, a big contributor and certainly the best example.
All three attributes apply to Chase Adams.
