Region play becomes Central focus this week in 6A

This state-wide poll is becoming very regional this week.
As in the region portion of the schedule begins this week in 6A to create some of the top matchups for the week.
Especially in the 6A Central Region, which includes 4-1 Queen Creek as the Bulldogs, and three other top 10 teams.
Tenth-ranked Desert Vista (4-0) travels to No. 4 Highland (5-0) and sixth-ranked Queen Creek (4-1) heads west to take on No. 5 Mountain Pointe (2-2).
“That’s a tough region; hard to tell who is going to win it,” one coach said. “This first round of games will give us an idea.”
And those games don’t even include defending region champion Desert Ridge, which is 3-2 and received one vote this week, as the Jaguars play one more freedom game against No. 1 Chandler.
A lot of eyes will be on the game in Ahwatukee as the Bulldogs take on perennial power Mountain Pointe, which has made the big-school semifinals eight times in the last nine seasons.
“That’s a big game this week against Mountain Pointe,” another coach said. “This will determine if they are a top 5 team in 6A.”
Meanwhile, either Highland or Desert Vista will remain undefeated as the calendar gets closer to October.
The Thunder are hardest to read thus for after starting the year against two California teams, respectable Valley Vista and North.
The Hawks will clearly be the toughest test so far for Desert Vista.
“What do we really know about DV? We will know more after this week,” one non-region coach said.
