The Queen Creek Unified School District announced the hiring of Andrew “Scooter” Molander as the new football head coach at Eastmark High School, which is scheduled to open in July 2019.
Molander was the head coach at Brophy Prep for 13 seasons before resigning following the 2017 season. He continued his teaching career at Brophy Prep since resigning as football coach, which was necessitated by the need to care for his ill parents at the time. He led the Broncos to 12-straight playoff appearances during his run at the school, winning at least one playoff game each year, including the 5A-1 State Championship in 2005 and 2007.
“Coach Molander is a great coach and an even better person,” said current Queen Creek High School Athletic Director Paul Reynolds, who will move to Eastmark in the same position when the new school opens.“We’re excited to have him a part of the QCUSD family and we’ll support him developing students, student-athletes and the football program at Eastmark High School.”
A gradate of Colorado State University, where he played quarterback, Molander also played professionally in the NFL and the Arena Football League. His unparalleled coaching achievements at Brophy Prep are further evidenced by his teams’ three berths in state championship games and five semifinals appearances. Now he’s looking forward to the task of building the Firebirds’ football program from the ground up and attaining similar success.
“Eastmark High School is within Queen Creek and is (part of) an exciting growing community,” Molander said about the opportunity in front of him. “The high school will reflect the people that are in it. This, of course, includes the leadership and the students.
“Principal Paul Gagnon and Athletic Director Paul Reynolds are great leaders and I welcome the opportunity to help them formally educate our students in the classroom and on the field.”
Eastmark High School is located at 9650 E. Ray Road in Mesa. For more information please visit here.
