Wednesday, Jan. 31:

3.  The No. 15 Queen Creek girls’ basketball team ends its regular on Senior Night vs. Higley. The Bulldogs defeated the Knights in lopsided fashion back in November, 53 – 10.

Result:  The Bulldogs sent their three seniors – Isabelle Rosales, Kelli Chapman and Joey Snow – out in style with a lopsided 60 – 29 victory. With the win, Queen Creek improved to 17 – 9, finishing the regular season with its most victories since winning 18 games during the 2012-13 season.

Up next:  5A Conference Play-In Tournament on Feb. 8. Time and location TBD.

2.  The fifth-seeded American Leadership Academy – Queen Creek boys’ soccer team will host No. 12 Sabino in the first-round of the 3A State Championship tournament.

Result:  The Patriots were the victim of another 12-5 upset, falling 5 – 0 against Sabino in their first-ever playoff game in the school’s history. “We fought as much as we could but didn’t come away with a win,” Patriots’ senior midfielder Pasha Holden told CountyLinePreps.com. “We weren’t as hungry as we should’ve been.”

The Patriots’ finished the season with a 9 – 3 record, the most wins in their brief history. “We had one of the greatest soccer teams ALA has ever had and we made school history this year,” Holden said. “It was one of the greatest seasons I’ve ever had, (and I know) this team will go far in the future.”

1.  5A boys’ soccer top-seed Queen Creek aims to win its 13th-straight game of the season when it hosts No. 16 Ironwood Ridge in the first-round of the 5A State Championship tournament.

Result:  The top-seeded Bulldogs remained undefeated and extended their winning streak to 13-straight games with a 3 – 0 victory against the Nighthawks. Kohlton Farrell, Fernando Neal, and Nick Umlali scored for Queen Creek, which posted its eighth shutout of the season. The Bulldogs will host No. 8 Ironwood, which defeated No. 9 Sunnyside 2 -0 in the first-round, on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m.
