Final poll has different look than initial vote

The final 6A football coaches have cast their votes for the last time this season and it looks a bit different than the first time they did so back in August.
Chandler is No. 1 from start to finish.
Perry and Pinnacle have been near the top all year. They started the year second and third respectively and finish it with the Pioneers at No. 2 and the Pumas at a season-low fifth.
After that it gets a little choppy.
In the initial poll Hamilton was No. 4 and finished outside of the top 10 and hasn’t received a single vote since Week 4. Mountain Pointe was fifth and finished at seventh after a three-game winning streak to end the year have the Pride a winning record at 6-4.
In their place is No. 3 Highland and No. 4 Desert Vista as both programs finished an impressive 9-1. To start the year the Hawks were 10th and the Thunder just missed the top 10 as the first team in the Others receiving votes status.
The Hawks received the most attention via coach’s comments in the final poll.
“Everyone dealing with injuries and other issues,” one assistant coach said. “Will see true depth and how team’s deal with adversity. Highland looks like a team that can make some real noise.”
One head coach thinks the Hawks might be the only team with a chance to stop the Wolves from winning their third straight title.
“Highland might be the only team confident enough to believe they can beat chandler,” he said.
The other big differences came from Chaparral being in the initial top 10 at ninth but finished the year at 5-5, while Brophy made the final poll at No. 10 and didn’t even receive a single preseason vote after going 1-9 in 2017.
Overall, the poll has been fluid all year, but it is clear there is some debate on the second through fifth best teams as those four teams are separated by just 19 points.
It’s time to let the action on the field this postseason to sort it out after the coaches did their best all year long to rank the state’s best 6A football teams.
