The Combs football team is on hot streak, winning its three-straight games after beating Cortez last Friday night, 43 – 0. During the winning streak, the Coyotes have outscored their opponents, 91 – 40. Combs quarterback Tre Buck completed 12-of-16 passes and threw for 231 yards with three touchdowns against the Colts. The Coyotes defense forced the three turnovers, including three fumbles and an interception. Strong safety Joey Jensen, a sophomore, returned the interception for a pick-six.

I asked Coach Travis Miller about Tre Buck, who has completed 18-of-25 passes with five touchdowns and no interceptions in the Yotes’ three victories.

“He is a great young man who has grown a lot as a QB,” Miller said. “I am so proud of what he has been able to do for us this year.

“Statistically, he has a strong overall QB-rating and a respectable TD to INT ratio, considering we only pass the ball 25 percent of the time. He is very capable of throwing the ball well. All of his passing stats against Cortez came within the first quarter and part of the second quarter last week.”

Combs is preparing this week to take on Glendale, which is an unbeaten team.

“Glendale is a great team,” Miller said. “Coach York does an excellent job. We have our hands full, but we will do everything we can to prepare for them and their tremendous athletes. There is a reason they are undefeated and near the top of 4A, so we must respect them and their ability.”

Combs has an overall record of 3 – 4, including 2 – 0 in region play.

Can Combs continue their winning streak while ending Glendale’s?
